Becoming a Nutrition Advisor

The prime role of a Nutrition Advisor is to educate individuals/consumers about dietary advice to help them achieve optimal health. From the very first module you’ll know how to help people overcome a number of today’s commonly encountered health problems through dietary adjustments. The course provides graduates with the skills and knowledge to offer safe and effective advice regarding diet and lifestyle. From the very first module students will know how to resolve a number of common health problems, starting with the digestive system. Subsequent modules provide the building blocks to progressively increase your healing skills.

This online/distance learning Nutrition Advisor diploma course is made up of 6 coursework modules, each having an assignment for submission. Although most of the learning is via self-study, students will need to complete a minimum of 10 hours tutorial/workshop attendance. These tutorials are held over two days most at weekends, with planned venues for 2019 in London and Milton Keynes (although locations cannot be guaranteed).

Each module submission will be returned with extensive feedback and this is supported by 1-1 calls with your allocated tutor.

For those students wishing to move onto stage 2 Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist there is also a 1 hour test after module 6 which is conducted by email and covers the key learning points. Upon successful completion you will receive a Nutrition Advisor diploma that will entitle you to apply for registration in the UK with the Naturopathic Nutrition Association (NNA) and set up in practice as a Nutritional Advisor.

Our Nutrition Advisor level of training has a dual purpose:

  • It is a stand-alone course, with the award of a Nutrition Advisor Diploma to successful graduates,
  • It is also the first part (Stage One) of our Naturopathic Nutrition diploma course. Upon successful completion of the Nutrition Advisor course, you may decide to progress to full Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist training by completing Stage Two Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy incorporating Clinical Practice training – full details can be found on the Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy ( and Clinical Practice) pages.

A Nutrition Advisor doesn’t have the extent of training needed to assist people who have received a medical diagnosis – for this qualification training would need to extend to the full Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy course.

Stage 1: Nutrition Advisor course content

The Stage One Nutrition Advisor diploma course is divided into 6 modules that are fully referenced, providing you with research data on a wealth of topics.

Most of the study can take place in the comfort of your own home. In order to comply with course accrediting bodies, attendance at a minimum of 1 x two-day (Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday) tutorial is required before the end of module 6. Tutorials during 2019 are planned to be held in London and Milton Keynes although we cannot guarantee locations.

Upon completion of each module there is a written homework assignment to submit for assessment. Written feedback is given for each assignment. The overall emphasis of course assignments is for you to demonstrate your ability to give clear and accurate nutritional/dietary/lifestyle advice. Students are asked to produce comprehensive case reports. For this reason we require a high standard of written English. The modules form the first six of our Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy course so should you decide to apply to continue your studies and move on to the next stage, you will not need to start a completely new course

While the emphasis of the course is on nutrients and lifestyle factors such as the influences of stress and physical inactivity, in order to give appropriate advice it’s vital to understand how the human body functions and how its different systems interact with one another (anatomy and physiology). Our integration of these at strategic points is aimed to help students associate the structure and functions of the body in relation to how inappropriate diet and lifestyle can cause disruption of normal processes (pathology). Whilst science does not have to be a major strength, it is essential to have some science training (a minimum of one science GCSE or equivalent). The science isn’t the chemistry and physics taught at school; anatomy and physiology and biochemistry are fascinating subjects and their inclusion in the course is aimed to help you gain a deeper understanding of the effects nutrients have in the body. Many students who were initially somewhat in awe of this science of biochemistry found they developed a deep passion for it as they discovered the web-like interactions of the body’s organs and systems that profoundly affect us all.
